Guwahati, Oct 5: The Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum on Saturday staged a massive protest against the proposed 12,500 mega watt Siang Upper Multi-Purpose project in Arunachal Pradesh.
Braving inclement weather, around 8000 villagers led by the SIFF on Saturday took out a massive anti-dam protest rally at Geku in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The protesters holding banners and placards raised slogan against the government.
It might be mentioned that the mega dam is to be implemented by the NHPC for which Pre Feasibility Report (PFR) is yet to be carried out.
On one hand, the Arunachal Pradesh government is trying hard to implement the project and on the other hand the SIFF and various other anti-dam forums are protesting against the coming up of the mega dam stating that it will submerge many villages as well as create a lot of environmental issues in the downstream areas.
“We urge chief minister Pema Khandu to stop the proposed 12,500 mega watt Siang Upper Multi-Purpose project. We don’t want such development which gives us problem. We demand to rollback the decision of mega dam,” a protester said.
