Gangtok, Oct 5: The death toll rises to 14 in the devastating flash floods in Sikkim, which was triggered by a cloud-burst which led to the swelling of river Teesta on Wednesday.
According to reports, 102 people are missing, including 22 Army personnel.
“Over 22 thousand people were affected due to the devastation. Till now two thousand people were evacuated. Indian Army, NDRF, is leading the rescue operations.
More NDRF teams are to be airlifted to Sikkim,” said an official.
He said 26 people were injured due to the devastation and were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Injuries and persons missing have been reported from Chungthang in Mangan district, Dikchu, Singtam in Gangtok district, and Rangpo in Pakyong district.
According to reports, over 3000 tourists are feared to be stranded in different parts of the state. 12–14 workers working in the Teesta stage 3 dam in Chungthang are still stranded in the tunnels of the dam.
All private and government schools in Sikkim in the districts of Pakyong, Gangtok, Namchi, and Mangan will remain closed until October 8.
Sikkim chief minister PS Tamang Golay urged the people of the state “to remain vigilant and refrain from unnecessary travel during this critical time”.
“It is essential that we maintain composure and hope for a swift return to normalcy in our region,” Sikkim CM PS Tamang stated.
