Meghalaya Govt had pressed its resources into action soon after the devastating flash floods in Sikkim. It had started the operation to evacuate its citizens and students from different parts of Sikkim on Friday and by the night, 26 students had been rescued and were on their way to Shillong via a bus.
Describing the experience as one of their most intense and frightening, the students from Shillong expressed relief and happiness on reaching Shillong safe and sound.
The students lauded the government’s hospitality and their swift response in helping them reach the state safely. They informed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma himself has been communicating directly with the students to assure their safe return home.
They stated that the government of Meghalaya had been working tirelessly to ensure their safety. They arranged vehicles directly to Siliguri in West Bengal, and then the government arranged another bus to take them back to Shillong.
