Gangtok, Dec 13: The soldiers of Indian Army vacated their barracks to accommodate more than 800 tourists stranded due to snowfall and inclement weather in East Sikkim on Wednesday.
The tourists rescued by Indian Army also included elderly, women and children. They had gotten stranded in High Altitude Areas of East Sikkim.
Troops of Trishakti Corps of Indian Army swung into immediate action and rescued the stranded tourists.
The rescue mission is still on and the tourists are being moved to safe areas and provided shelter, warm clothing, medical aid and hot meals.
