Sikkim’s ‘Tara, the Lost Star’ shines in Cannes International Film Festival

Gangtok, May 21: Proud moments for the people of Sikkim because ‘Tara, the lost Star’ is all set to debut at Cannes International Film Festival 2024. This is the first film from the Himalayan State to reach the prestigious film festival.

Actor and producer Shyama Shree Sherpa is representing the State and the film at the festival.

The film was completed in about seven months and was extensively shot at Gnathang-Memenchu near Changu Lake in Sikkim.

Film producer and lead, Shyama Shree Sherpa shared, “I am glad to announce that it is a historic moment for all the Sikkimese and Nepali as for the first time a Sikkimese Nepali film named Tara, the lost Star is screening on 20th May 12:00 pm for the market screening at the biggest film festival in the world here at Cannes International Film Festival”.

Tara, the Lost Star is directed by Samten Bhutia and co-produced by Sabitri Chettri. It is a presentation of SaDa Productions in association with Passang Mintok Films.

Taking to X (formerly twitter), Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Golay congratulated the Tara team, calling the film “a remarkable achievement for Sikkim as it makes its debut at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival 2024”.
