Shillong, June 1: Krishnakumar Kunnath, famously known as KK, died hours after a concert in Kolkata on Tuesday night. KK, who gave Indian music lovers many hits over the last three decades, has died at 53.
KK gave a performance at Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday evening and later went to his hotel where he fell ill. He was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead.
KK was also popularly known as the “Voice of Love”. His debut album ‘Pal’ released in 1999. His songs – ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaroon’ – were pretty much the favourite song of all the 90s kids. “Hum, rahen ya na rahen kal Kal yaad aayenge ke ye pal…” the timeless classic filled the air at his last concert at Kolkata. The audience waved their mobile phones with the flash lights on, as the singer put up an electrifying performance of his 1990s hit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the death of singer KK. In a tweet, PM Modi said he is saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, a music enthusiast himself, also mourned the death of the singer. In a tweet the CM said: “Shocking news. Gone too soon… Your songs always struck the right chord in the hearts of all your fans. The music industry has lost another gem. Rest In Peace #KK.”
