Guwahati, Oct 1: Assam police on Thursday arrested another person for allegedly instigating the violence during the eviction drive in Siphajar in Assam’s Darrang district on September 23.
Two persons were killed in police firing and several others including policemen sustained serious injuries during the eviction drive.
The person has been identified as one Sarifuddin(40) of Dholpur 1 village.
“Like the previous two arrests, even he was found instigating the protesters during the eviction drive which later turned violent,” a police official said.
Two arrested for instigating violence
On Monday, Chand Mamud(47) and Asmat Ali Ahmed(37) were arrested from Dholpur 3 village. They were found instigating the protesters during the eviction drive.
According to police the three arrested have been booked under multiple IPC section, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.
Chand Mamud is the President of Sonowal Village Panchayat while the other arrested person Ashmmat Ali is the former President of Bojona Pathar village Panchayat.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier hinted at a role by the PFI, which has been under the scanner of government organisations. The three are currently in Mangaldai jail.
Sarifuddin hit by bullet, yet to fully recoverÂ
Jorifuddin, brother of Sarifuddin, said he(Sarifuddin) had suffered a bullet injury during the clash with police on September 23. He was shot in his leg and was taken to the Gauhati Medical College(GMCH).
He said that police picked up his brother from the hospital late Wednesday night and took him directly to Sipajhar police station. He has still not fully recovered from the bullet injury.
“Based on the evidences, we have arrested the persons. We are investigating the case and as per investigation we are moving into the case. Till now, we have found three persons’ involvement in instigating the protesters during the eviction drive,” said a police official.
Blueprint to change demography of Assam
Speaking to reporters in Dhemaji on Thursday, Chief Minister Sarma alleged that a “blueprint” was hatched by the encroachers to change the demography of the state.
“They have made a blueprint to occupy Assembly Constituencies one by one. Now, they are trying to take over Sipajhar, Borsola, and Lumding constituencies,” Sarma said.
