Guwahati, Nov 25: Assam Police announced on Sunday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to investigate the murder of four individuals in Gorajan village, Nagaon district. The murders, allegedly linked to a suspected love affair, have shocked the state.
The incident took place on Friday near Laokhowa under the Rupahi assembly constituency, where four individuals were reportedly hacked to death in a brutal attack.
“The CID and forensic science experts have already collected evidence from the crime scene. A SIT will now be constituted to advance the investigation,” a police official stated.
Assam Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh informed the media that the SIT will be led by Nagaon Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka. “CID and forensic teams visited the spot on Saturday and collected critical evidence, including blood samples and fingerprints,” Singh added.
The victims included retired government employee Gunadhar Sarkar, his wife Sarojini, their youngest daughter Jayasmrita, and a relative from Nagaon, Anupam Sutradhar. The assailants reportedly used sharp weapons to behead the victims inside their home, allegedly over a failed love affair.
Fortunately, two other family members—a daughter whose wedding was scheduled for next Wednesday and her brother—escaped the tragedy as they were away shopping in Nagaon for the upcoming nuptials.
