GUWAHATI, Aug 4: Six workers were injured, one of them seriously after a tower crane collapsed at a cement plant of Dalmia Cement Ltd at Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday night.
Of the six injured persons, one has been shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), while five others are undergoing treatment in HAAM Hospital in Hojai, Dima Hasao superintendent of police (SP) Mayank Kumar said.
The condition of the five injured workers is stable, they said. The incident took place at the Line-2 project site of Umrangso at around 7 pm.
According to an eyewitness account, the boom suddenly fell as the crane was lifting materials.
The cause of the incident is not known. Officials of Dalmia Cement Ltd are not available for comment.
“Rescue operations have been completed and no worker has been trapped inside the plant,” Kumar said.
“The situation is currently stable, and an additional district commissioner is monitoring the situation,” the SP added.
