Tura, July 7: The Honorable Speaker of Meghalaya, Shri Thomas A. Sangma, along with the Minister in charge of Soil and Water Conservation, Shri Marcuise N. Marak, launched the Sloping Agriculture Land Technique (SALT) and Land Development Project in Sasatgre, under Rongram C&RD Block, West Garo Hills. Hosted by the Tura Soil & Water Conservation (T) division on July 7th, 2023, this event marked a significant stride towards sustainable agriculture in the region.
During the program, Shri Thomas Sangma praised the project’s potential to benefit farmers and preserve the ecological balance, while Shri Marcuise Marak highlighted its impact on soil and water conservation. The SALT Project is a revolutionary endeavor poised to bring remarkable benefits to Meghalaya’s farmers and preserve the ecological balance. By promoting sloping agriculture techniques like terraces and contour bunds, the project aims to combat soil erosion, enhance soil fertility, and conserve precious water resources. It empowers farmers to cultivate their lands sustainably while also reducing vulnerability to natural calamities in hilly terrains.
