Shillong, May 19: Concerned about the rise of COVID-19 cases, Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday called for a review meeting, bringing the ruling and Opposition to join hands in fighting the pandemic. The Speaker has also assured that the Members of the Legislative Assembly will work together.

Speaking with media persons, Lyngdoh stated that remembering their role as elected representatives it was needed to sit and hot down the opinions of the representatives.
The Speaker informed that the MLAs discussed at length, and the government has also given a detailed representation of the COVID-19 cases in the state.
“The govt has given us a presentation of the steps and actions taken, like containment measures, vaccination and treatment as well,” said Lyngdoh.
Discussions concerning setting up of oxygen plants at various locations, increasing the number of beds and identifying corona care centers, was also held.
The Speaker expressed satisfaction over the meeting held and said that it was a fruitful one.
“We exchanged views and opinions and all the members had participated. The government has assured that all those suggestions and feedback have been taken note of,” said Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh further appealed the citizens to take the vaccination as recommended, since it is the need of the hour.
He also appealed to the local heads, NGOs, religious leaders to come forward and help the government.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma urged the government to take cognizance of all the grievances and concerns of the people.
He said that precious lives have been lost in and that there are loopholes that the government should work on.
Dr. Mukul added that there would be waves after waves since the virus keeps mutating and reminded the youths to build up their immunity.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the government has taken note of the suggestions and will work on it. Sangma added that the shortage of vaccines which is seen in all parts of the country is also the same scenario in the state.
“Hopeful once production supply chain is streamlined and bumped up we are hopeful we will be able to fight in a stronger manner,” said Sangma.
