Shillong, April 19: A hit-and-run accident took place on Thursday around 10:30 PM near Bawri Mansion Junction, where a speeding vehicle rammed into two scooties and fled the scene.
As per police sources, the vehicle – an EcoSport (Ford) bearing registration number ML 05 P2414 – was traveling from Dhankheti towards Malki. However, just before reaching Woodland Hospital, the vehicle hit two scooties and a few other vehicles.
It was also reported that instead of stopping, the driver sped off, causing chaos as people shouted and tried to chase him. He managed to flee towards Barik and turned into the road leading to Phan Nonglait (Lady Hydari) Park, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled from the area.

Also the police informed that the two scooties involved were: ML 05 V 5339, ridden by Lamjingshai Kupar Nongbet of Mawlai Mawroh, and ML 05 R 8515, ridden by Asif Wahlang of Laban. Both vehicles were damaged in the incident. Police sources also confirmed that Nongbet was injured and rushed to Woodland Hospital.
Till the filing of this news report, police said the driver of the EcoSport vehicle remains absconding.
