Shillong, Nov 9: In a thrilling 90-minute match, Shillong Lajong played out a 1-1 draw against Neroca FC in their inaugural home game of the Hero I-League season 2023-24. A passionate crowd of five thousand spectators gathered to witness the thrilling encounter, marking the return of national-level League action after a four-year hiatus.
The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when Shillong Lajong’s Brazilian captain, Daniel Gonsalves, executed a precise header from a cross delivered by Japan’s Takuto. This early goal injected a surge of energy into the home team and ignited the fervor of the devoted crowd.
However, the game took a dramatic turn in the 79th minute when Neroca FC’s striker, Fabrien, displayed his prowess by netting the equalizer. The late-game goal added an element of suspense and kept the outcome uncertain until the final whistle.
Shillong Lajong’s next home fixture is scheduled for November 12, where they will face off against Sreenidi Deccan at the SSA (First) Ground, Polo Shillong.
