Shillong, July 18: The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) school teachers in Meghalaya under the umbrella of the Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) announced that the teachers will continue with their indefinite sit-in protest near the Additional Secretariat, Shilllong.

The members of the MSSASA met with Additional Secretary DP Wahlang here on Monday.

MSSASA President Aristotle Rymbai said that the association is not satisfied with the state government’s assurance given through the government official for their salaries, pending for six months, from February to June.

“The education department has informed us that the delay for the pending salaries is with the State Finance Department and not from the Education Department, to released the salary amounting to Rs. 44 crores approx,” informed Rymbai.

“For the current Financial year the delay is with central government and the Additional Secretary has informed us that the Centre has not released a single paise to any states across the country till today,” added Rymbai.

Rymbai further said the Additional Secretary has informed that most of the states have not released the fund given by the central government from last year.

On the enhancement of the salary, Rymbai said the Additional Secretary informed that the department is still examining the matter as the state is facing financial crisis.

Mentionably, the demands of the MSSASA include the enhancement of the salaries of the SSA teachers, higher budget provision for the SSA schools in the state and the shifting of the existing SSA teachers from the State Implementation Society to the Education department on a regular basis.
