Shillong, July 5: Iasnohktilang Madanrting FC and Umpling SC registered their first victories in the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
It was a day featuring the teams that have not had that much success in the competition so far but all four put on a good show and the contests were close.
In the first game, Iasnohktilang were 2-0 winners over Kharang SC in Group B, while Umpling later edged Mawkriah West SC 1-0 in Group A.
All three goals were scored in the second half of the two matches. Jerina M Mawlong (51′) and Aitibha Thabah (56′) were the scorers for Iasnohktilang, who thoroughly celebrated their triumph, with photos and plenty of cheers after the match.
Later, despite losing the game, Mawkriah West can be proud of the way they held off Umpling for more than 50 minutes before conceding via a penalty taken by Streamlet Taro (54′).
Mawkriah had conceded 32 goals in their previous two games but they bravely held off Umpling even though they had to defend for nearly 90 percent of the match.
Tomorrow will witness two Group A fixtures – it will be PFR Football Academy versus Kick Start Football Coaching Centre at 2:30pm followed by Laitkor SC against Lawei Smit SC at 4:15pm.
