Shillong, Nov 8: The Open Western Acapella Choir Competition and Choir Singing Festival, organized by YMCA Shillong in collaboration with Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya and hosted by Shillong Public School, has been won by St. Anthony’s College.
The competition was held on Thursday at the Lariti International Center for performing Arts and Culture, Mawkasiang.
St. Edmund’s College took the second spot and St. Mary’s College of Teachers Education secured the third spot.
The Winners were awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates. The competition was judged by a panel of eminent personalities from the music fraternity consisting of Mrs Pauline Warjri, Mrs Rimame Lyndem, Mr Toshan Nongbet and Mr Gordon Thabah.
The event was graced by Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Lyngdoh, as the Chief Guest and Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Department of Arts and Culture, F.R.Kharkongor, as the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Paul Lyngdoh appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders to invest in the promotion of Choir singing and the immense talent of the Youths in the State, He announced that this event should be an annual event to further the talents and skills of the Youths of the State.
Meanwhile, F.R. Kharkongor emphasised on the effect of music on the mind, body and spirit of every individual.
