Shillong, Aug 29: The centenary celebrations of the St. Edmund’s College, Shillong concluded on Monday here.
St Edmund’s college had kicked off its centenary celebration on November 5, last year. The oldest college in the state was established in 1923.
Addressing the function, Archbishop of Shillong Diocese, Rev Victor Lyngdoh said that the pioneers of the college had a very strong vision and the college had stood tall and faced the challenges of life.
According to him, the college has remained strong and 100 years is not a sign of old age, it is rather a sign of maturity, experience, efficiency and growth. He said that he would like to express his sincere gratitude to the blessed Edmund Rice who is the founder of the CFC congregation and to all the members of the congregation of Christian Brothers.
“Let me place on record the gratitude toward the members of their congregation, past and present, as well as the faculty of the institution for the contribution in the field of education in the state and as a nation as a whole,” Archbishop of Shillong Diocese said.
He said that they have rendered a yeoman service to humanity by educating everyone who comes to the doors of St. Edmund’s institution.
Rev Lyngdoh also observed that many have achieved greatness because of the committed service and passed out from this esteemed institution.
In his message to the students, he said that they should strive for the best in life and aim at the big star.
On the occasion, Archbishop of Shillong Diocese released the cover of the Edmundian Centenary Special Zone besides releasing of the centenary edition magazines of the Economics and Physics departments.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Centenary Celebrations Committee chairman, Br. EV Miranda and principal of the college, Br. (Dr) Simon Coelho. The report of the year long celebrations was also read out on the occasion.
