State assures Bindas Syiem of road construction, initiates action, urges to stop hunger strike

Shillong, June 6: The government has addressed the hunger strike on road upgradation by Bindas Syiem of Mawlong Nongtluh, Ri-Bhoi District. In a letter, from the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, stated that the Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted a proposal for the upgradation of a 9.43 km stretch of road under the North East Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS). The proposed project is set to commence from Nongpoh to extend to Pordua village. Additionally, a proposed road for a further stretch of 44.00 km, has been submitted under the PMGSY scheme, and is awaiting government sanction.

Syiem has been urged to stop the hunger strike. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the government has initiated necessary actions and requested her to stop the protest.

Earlier Bindas Syiem had stated that she would stop the protest if she got a written acknowledgement from the government.

The letter also stated that Syiem and other stakeholders will be kept informed of further progress and encouraged them to seek clarifications or further information during office hours.
