State Cabinet increases Meghalaya Day Award to Rs 2 lakh, introduces online applications

Must read

Shillong, July 10: The state government on Wednesday approved the amendment of the guidelines for the Meghalaya Day Award.

“We have made two changes on this. First is that we have decided to increase the amount of award from Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh. As you know this was done last in 2013. Therefore, we feel the amount of Rs one lakh may not be significant and sufficient; so we have decided to double it. So now from one lakh it will be increased to two lakh rupees,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting.

He said another decision taken was to make the application online, which means it doesn’t have to be sent through a particular department.

“Now individuals can recommend other individuals also through online system like it was done for the Padmashree and other national awards. We are also now broadening the entire process so that more people can recommend names directly through the online system,” he stated.
