Shillong, April 8: The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the amendment of the Meghalaya State Language Act, 2005 for inclusion of new district of Eastern West Khasi Hills in the list of associate official language.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said, “As per the Meghalaya State Language Act, 2005 for different associate languages in different districts either Khasi or Garo is put there for local communication to be allowed in the associate languages and the different exams to be conducted, the necessary language requirement will be based on that associate official language.”

“As we have a new district of Eastern West Khasi Hills District, the necessary amendment had to be made to make the associate official language in Khasi and include the new district in that particular list. So that small amendment was made just to include Eastern West Khasi Hills in the list,” he added.
