State Govt pays ₹5 Lakh compensation for Juvenile’s death at Shillong Civil Hospital

Shillong, Feb 11: The state government has paid compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of (L) Wanlangki Dkhar, a juvenile who died in Shillong Civil Hospital on March 9, 2020.

The secretary of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Tuesday informed that the Commission, in its order dated December 6, 2024, had recommended the payment of compensation to the next of kin of (L) Wanlangki Dkhar, a juvenile (child in conflict with law) who died in Civil Hospital, Shillong on March 9, 2020 to the tune of Rs 5,00,000 and the same should be paid by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya.

The Director of Health Services (MI) through its letter dated 7th February, 2025, informed the Commission that the amount was paid by cheque to Mrs. Modly Dkhar, mother of the deceased in presence of Health officials and the officials of the MHRC.
