Must read

Shillong, May 3: The state government is proposing to come up with a new scheme ‘Meghalaya Education Grant’ (MEG) which seeks to cater to all grant-in-aid schools in the state in its bid to address the problem of having too many categories of schools.

This was informed by the president of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), Aristotle C Rymbai, after a general body meeting of all SSA teachers held here on Saturday.

The meeting was to share the outcomes of the five rounds of discussion held between the MSSASA and the education department on the issue.

Speaking to reporters, Rymbai said, “We have discussed in details on the plan of the government to come up with new scheme, which will be named as Meghalaya Education Grant (MEG).”

“The commissioner & secretary of education yesterday on May 2 (had informed) regarding the idea or the proposal of the government to come up with new scheme, which will crop together all grant-in-aid schools – deficit, adhoc and SSA, which are not willing to handover their management to the government,” he said.

“The government has also given time to stakeholders to submit their views and suggestions regarding the proposal on or before May 31 so that the government will come up with a decision to go forward with this proposal,” he informed while adding that once all stakeholders have submitted their suggestions, the government will call a meeting for discussion and for taking necessary decisions on the issue.

Rymbai also informed that the SSA teachers were also briefed on the resolutions taken in the last five meetings chaired by the commissioner & secretary of education on the issue of the SSA teachers especially with regards to obtaining NOC of willingness of the SMCs to handover the management of the SSA schools to the education department, which is one of the guidelines of the government of India that there should not be any differences between the SSA and the government schools.

As per the guidelines, there should be only one management and that management should be the education department.
