Shillong, Aug 31: Following the report on financial crisis of State government run Children’s Home for Boys and Girls in Garo Hills, and much of the state, the Commissioner & Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Pravin Bakshi, has issued an explainer on the reasons.
He informed the situation of not getting funds from the Centre is not just with Meghalaya but across the whole of India. He said there has been a transition to a new accounting and fund release mechanism from the Ministry and certain compliance, because of which the funds are yet to be released.
“This year due to transition to a new accounting and fund release mechanism from the Ministry and compliance issues most of the States have not received funds and are struggling,” he told Hub News when asked about the financial crunch in Children’s Homes.
He assured that the government is making all out efforts to resolve the issue.
“We are making all out efforts to resolve this issue with Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. As already stated, most of states have not received releases this year,” he said.
Mentionably, on Wednesday, Hub News brought to light the financial crisis in State-run Children’s Home for Boys and Girls in Garo Hills, because of which the homes are currently running on bare-minimum facilities. However, officials and superintendents of the Homes have taken in upon themselves to ensure that the children in these centres don’t go hungry or miss out on any essentials by paying for these needs from their own pocket.
