Guwahati, January 19: The Special Task Force (STF) Assam has arrested a most-wanted Islamic extremist, Jaheer Ali, from Khudigaon Pt 2 in Bilasipara, Dhubri district under ‘Operation Praghat’.
The arrest comes as part of an ongoing investigation into STF Assam Police Station Case No. 21/2024, which has already resulted in the apprehension of 12 individuals involved in clandestine activities. Among those arrested are Bangladeshi nationals operating under the direction of Md. Farhan Israk, a close associate of Jasimuddin Rahmani, the leader of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
The investigation revealed that the group facilitated the entry of Md. Sad Radi alias Shab Sheikh, a resident of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, to India to propagate extremist ideology among like-minded individuals across the country.
Acting on directives from STF Chief Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the operation led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other incriminating materials, including mobile phones and documents, from the accused. The arrests mark a major step in countering the activities of extremist groups in the region.
