Stolen motorcycle leads to arrest of five in North Garo Hills

Shillong, Feb 8: A stolen motorcycle traced to North Garo Hills led to the arrest of five individuals on Saturday, February 8, 2025, during a joint operation by the district police and Assam Police.

The operation was launched after intelligence inputs pointed to the movement of stolen vehicles in the region. A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (Registration No. AS-18 K 3422), reported stolen from Matia Police Station in Goalpara, was intercepted at Wageasi OGC. Another motorcycle (Registration No. AS-01 FF 1309) was recovered at Gairong Bazaar.

Investigations suggest the motorcycles were destined for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh via Rongara.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Rockystar M Sangma – Resident of Bagmara, Dabigiri
Sanstar A Sangma – Resident of Bagmara, Dabigiri
Fozirul Haque – Resident of Sidabari, Goalpara
Rofiqul Ali (Nabar Ali) (27 years), son of Anser Ali, resident of Nayapara (Digpara), PS Matia
Rakibul Islam (28 years), son of Late Jamoor Uddin, resident of Nagarbera (Paharpara), PS Nagarbera, District Kamrup
The detainees have been handed over to Matia Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
