Guwahati, May 5: One man died and two others critically injured in a head-on collision between a Dumper and a Maruti Alto car Saturday evening near Lala town at the Chandrapur National Highway bypass, in Assam’s Hailakandi district.
One Eklas Uddin Sheikh (29) from Joykrishnapur village died on the spot, while two others, Riju Laskar (32) from Jalalpur and Iftiqar Alam Choudhury from Dhanipur, critically injured. All were Maruti Alto passengers.
The Maruti Alto suffered extensive damage in the collision. The impact of the crash left the car mangled and crushed with its front end completely destroyed.
The stone-laden dumper collided with the car in front of a petrol pump, and the driver fled the scene following the incident. Local residents rushed to rescue the victims and informed the police.
The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital but were later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for advanced treatment. Their conditions remain extremely critical.
