Storm affected victims begin receiving relief including new CGI sheets for roofing

Tura, May 7: Victims of Sunday’s storm in Garo Hills whose homes were damaged and their roof tops blown away by strong winds have begun receiving relief from the government with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma directing officials to ensure speedy rehabilitation.

“I have already directed the concerned deputy commissioners to ensure relief is provided on a war footing and today families whose homes were destroyed or damaged and their roof tops blown away have been provided with new CGI tin sheets,” said chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

The chief minister also said that instructions have been given to the deputy commissioners to ensure other relief materials are being provided to the beneficiaries as well.

“The damages have been in South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills districts. There are over 500 houses in South Garo Hills that sustained damage in the storm and around 3-5 homes in South West Garo Hills district. We will ensure every affected family gets government relief and compensation,” assured the chief minister.
