The deceased has been identified as Shahinur Islam (26), a resident of Char Kukurmara village of the district.
The incident took place in the Kukurmara area near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
According to sources, the cattle smuggler tried to escape from the BSF before he was shot.
“The cattle smuggler was sustained seriously injured after bullet him and he died. Before medical assistance could arrive, he died,” said a police official.
Cattle smugglers have managed to engage in this trade concerning the illegal supply of cattle to Bangladesh using the Brahmaputra River.

According to reports, every year more than 2 million Indian cattle are smuggled to Bangladesh.
