Shillong, April 17: Rajabala MLA Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi on Thursday expressed his gratitude to the Government for the prompt action in restoring the Gomaijhora Irrigation Project, which had faced a water crisis affecting thousands of bighas of agricultural land.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Kazi said, “In the Gomaijhora Irrigation Project, water is supplied to thousands and thousands of bighas of land, especially for paddy cultivation. What usually happens during the non-rainy season is that the water level in the reservoir drops, resulting in huge damage to the paddy crop and affecting the livelihoods of the farmers.”

He shared that just a week ago, the area experienced a sudden drop in water levels, threatening the standing crops. “Immediately, I called the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and the Chief Engineer of Water Resources. With their kind help, I could arrange four 20 HP diesel pumps through the Government. Due to electricity issues, diesel pumps were the only quick solution. Now we are pulling water from downstream to the canal, and the paddy fields have been saved,” he said.

He expressed heartfelt thanks to the Government, especially to Water Resources Minister Comingone Ymbon, for their quick intervention. “The issue is now resolved, and things are going pretty well,” he added.

My heartfelt thanks to the Honourable Water Resources Minister Bah Comingone Ymbon, CE (WR), Addl. CE (WR), SE (WR) WGH, EE (WR) Tura, and other officials of the Water Resources Department for their kind and prompt action in executing and resolving this issue with lightning-fast speed. I convey my best wishes to all the farmers of the entire area,” he wrote.
