Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong of Block II meet DC Ri Bhoi, apprise him on agitations in Assam side

Shillong, Sept 27: The representatives of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Areas of Block II met the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention over the series of agitational programmes held by various communities staying in the Assam side against the 2nd Phase of boundary settlement between Meghalaya and Assam.

They informed that the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya have decided not to allow any agitational programmes to be conducted by any group pertaining to the boundary settlement in all such areas to be covered under the second phase of talks. However, residents from the Assam side belonging to various communities have allegedly held agitational programmes, whereas the district Administration of West Karbi Anglong has failed to take any action against such programmes.

The delegation of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Areas of Block II, Ri Bhoi District, during the meeting with the DC apprised him on the matter and sought his intervention over the Assam side not respecting the decision made by the two-state governments relating to agitational programme on the 2nd Phase boundary settlement.

Blikstar Sohtun, the President of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Areas, said the Khasi community is very concerned over the attitude of the other communities residing in the border areas of Block II who have been agitating over the issue of boundary settlement without any action from the other side of the district administration of West Karbi Anglong of Assam.

He further said the Khasi community residing in Block II area, which is also one of the areas which will be decided by both the government under 2nd phase of boundary settlement, has been respecting the decision of the two-state governments and has not to agitated nor raised any issues, waiting for the settlement to be completed.

Sohtun also said that, in the memorandum, the representatives of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border areas has sought immediate action or intervention on the matter with the DC of West Karbi Anglong, failing which they will be compelled to take stern action or start agitating on the 2nd Phase of boundary settlement.
