Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched a fresh attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul, the key accused in the cash-for-jobs scam, gifted gold ornaments worth ₹3 lakh at Gogoi’s wedding in 2013.

Deboraj Upadhyay, a retired IPS officer and current member of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), has been appointed as the new chairman of the APSC.

A case against former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul and 43 others was lodged in 2017 following a complaint by an ADO job applicant, who alleged that Paul and others had asked for a bribe of ₹15 lakh for a job.

The court of the Special Judge, Assam on Wednesday rejected a supplementary chargesheet submitted by a senior IPS officer Prateek V Thube, who is conducting a probe into the cash-for-jib scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by additional DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta for further investigation by a new investigation officer not below the rank of DySP.
