Assam police detained at least 50 persons on Thursday after a group of villagers attacked a police team by "biting" them, injuring several personnel.

The accused have been identified as Chao Neuta Min of Changlai village in Changlang district and Chao Arvi Khen of Jenglai village.

The tanker, registered as NL01AG-5508 and originally intended for transporting petroleum products, was found to be concealing a massive quantity of dry marijuana (ganja).

AKHAF’s General secretary, Manuel Marak, said the Assam government promised to resolve the issue of damage to tombs in the village graveyard by the Assam police and to punish the concerned personnel involved in the crime.

The Assam police have taken up pro-active steps to become the police unit much healthier and fitter. Over the next 15 days, approximately 67,000 members of the Assam Police will undergo body weight assessment and measurement of their Body Mass Index (BMI), aimed at cultivating a "healthier police force."
