According to reports, Assam Police carried out raids at multiple locations of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Gossaigaon, Serfanguri, Kachugaon, Bogoribari in Kokrajhar.
These call centres were running an illegal internet-based telephone exchange to scam people within and outside the country. The scamming racket was operating for the past two years.
Three Manipur based drug peddlers were apprehended and subsequently another three Assam based peddlers, who were supposed to receive the consignment, were also apprehended from Sachika hotel at Amingaon.
In a shameful incident, the police constable, identified as 50-year-old Shivesh Sen Gupta, was on night patrol duty when CCTV footage showed him stealing a sack of onions from a parked vehicle at a godown in ward 5 of Dhubri town.
Interestingly, the police constable has no idea about the CCTV camera installed in the godown. The theft took place around 3 a.m., when there was no one in the godown.
