The completion of Meghalaya's new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang, in the outskirts of Shillong, has been extended to the autumn session of 2025. This decision was made during the High Power Committee (HPC) meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Wednesday.
The ongoing construction of the new building of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has been affected to a great extent due to the “absence” of the labourers.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said that the collapse of a retaining wall has got nothing to do and will not have any impact on the ongoing construction of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang.
Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, on Tuesday conducted an inspection of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang and chaired a review meeting regarding the project which was attended by Deputy Speaker, Timothy D Shira, along with Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary of the Meghalaya Assembly, and officials from various line departments and the Assembly Secretariat.
He informed that the HPC, Assembly Secretariat, and line departments have accepted the proposal for the second phase and the proposal will be submitted to the Ministry of DoNER.
