19 years back on this day, 9 innocent souls from Garo Hills were lost to the bullets of police during the protests against the bifurcation of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE).
The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) commemorated the Martyr's Day with its 18th annual memorial service for the 30th September '05 Matgrik at Tura’s Chandmari playground, near Cenotaph, on Saturday.
It was 18 years back that on this fateful day, 9 innocent souls from Garo Hills were lost to the bullets of police. The day has come to be known as the ‘Black Friday’, the darkest chapter in the history of the state and Garo Hills.
