Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday assured to personally examine the applications of the five coke plants, which consent to establish (CTE) was recently granted by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), and said necessary action will be taken if norms are flouted.
The Supreme Court of India on Friday imposed an interim stay on the order of the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills District in demolition of coke plants in East Jaintia Hills District.
In a press statement, Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya in-charge Forest and Environment Department, said action had already been initiated against the illegal coke plats in December 2022 by shutting down the illegal plants and initiate the process of dismantling the bee-hive coke ovens to ensure that they do not become operational again.
