The political battleground in Assam is heating up, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi locked in an escalating war of words. The Assam BJP has gone on the offensive, accusing the Congress of running a misinformation campaign to shield Gogoi and his wife from mounting allegations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi in regards to their response to the Union Budget 2025-26 and said that Gandhi has "zero knowledge about the Indian economy".
Speaking at a press conference at Vajpayee Bhawan in Basistha, BJP spokesperson Subhash Dutta alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had been issuing misleading statements about the summit. "His comments suggest that Congress is conspiring to present a distorted image of Assam before the world," Dutta claimed.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on January 29, All India Congress Committee (AICC) national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate criticized the Chief Minister for his "double standards" on illegal rat-hole mining.
Assam Police have registered an FIR against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi at Panbazar police station in Guwahati for allegedly making derogatory remarks about RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Congress chief Vincent H Pala indirectly slammed the Voice of the People Party (VPP) for allegedly adopting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s modus operandi by mixing religion with politics.
Speaking to reporters, Pala said, “The VPP should come out clear about their intention. Whether they are for protecting the rich custom and tradition of the indigenous people or whether they want to shift from the Sixth Schedule to Article 371so that the people can give their clear mandate (in the upcoming ADC elections).”
