DIG Eastern Range, Davis NR Marak, on Tuesday informed that the preliminary inquiry has revealed that the four persons, who were brutally murdered at Umpleng village in East Jaintia Hills District, were suspected to be drug users and small time peddlers.
The three new criminal laws passed by the parliament include: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which will replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Criminal Procedure Code 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872, respectively.
Four arrested members of the National Liberation Council of Nongkyndong (NLCN) from Jaintia Hills were on Friday brought to Shillong and produced before the Court, which remanded them to 10 days of police custody.
