Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Friday said the government will try to complete the process of appointing over 1,200 teachers in Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) schools before Christmas.

The education minister further said that 90% of the students would opt out of mathematics if are allowed.

"The Voice of the People Party (VPP) comprises of intellectual people, so it’s best if they give more suggestions than just criticism," says Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma following the demand of the VPP to remove the Education Minister from his portfolio from the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

Established on August 24, 1993, Durama College emerged as a visionary endeavor by the senior citizens of Tura, who recognized the need for accessible higher education in the heart of Garo Hills. The college began its journey from the premises of Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tura, as a co-educational institution.

He said that the state government has also decided to set up the Shillong campus of the State University.

Informing this on Tuesday, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma told reporters that the meeting, which will be chaired by him, will also be attended by officials from the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and heads of institutions.

The minister said the matter is very unfortunate and he suspects that there are many centres across the state which are facing the same situation.
