South Sikkim is grappling with a critical shortage of essential food supplies as the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Jorethang is almost empty.

In the wake of the arrest made by the East Khasi Hills Police on October 31, the Ri Bhoi Police has also taken action by filing a suo-moto case against Bless Dkhar, a leader of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF). He stands accused of extorting money from trucks operating on the Umiam-Damsite Bridge.
