This is the first time in the country that pellet guns are being used for crowd control on protesting students in uniform, drawing mass condemnation from all over. The injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Imphal, drawing a grim reminder of the security forces using the weapons to quell protests in Jammu and Kashmir.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested Moirangthem Anand Singh in a case related to a transnational conspiracy by Myanmar based leadership of terror outfits to wage a war against the government of India by exploiting the current ethnic unrest in the State of Manipur.
The five youths were granted bail by the court after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 50,000, while the court imposed five conditions, which include that the accused shall not leave Manipur without prior permission of the court.
At several places, angry protestors confronted the police and other security agencies with police resorting to lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the crowds who have thronged the police stations. Many are reported to be injured in the incident.
