The Jaintia Students' Union (JSU) on Friday said only a handful of businessmen of Jaintia Hills support railway line in the region even as it argued that having railways may not necessarily bring down the prices of essential commodities.
In the memorandum submitted to Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdo, the Union strongly demand from the state Government to re establish an MPSC Examination Centre in Jowai which would make it more accessible and convenient for job applicants from the region.
The action was taken after a delegation led by the president of the union Livingeon Sama and general secretary Ajoymenson Lyngdoh met the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) and medical officer to enquire about the functioning of the hospital which was recently upgraded from a community health centre (CHC) to a civil hospital.
