The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has taken action against party MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das for publicly supporting the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government.

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha was elected as MLA of Karimganj North Legislative Assembly constituency for the first time in 2011, defeating the four-time BJP MLA Mission Ranjan Das.
