The High Court of Meghalaya has given its verdict to a PIL directing the state government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to hospitals and emergency centres in the state even as the state continues to grapple with load shedding for a few hours, everyday.
Managing Director of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Sanjay Goyal on Monday said with the improvement of water level in Umiam Reservoir, the load shedding in Shillong, Tura and Jowai towns has been further reduced to only 2 hours and for rest of the areas to 5 hours with effect from July 18.
On Wednesday, the Meghalaya High Court had directed the State to file a comprehensive report indicating the measures to reduce the shortfall of power in the state.
He informed that in the last 3-4 days, the corporation has not gone ahead with the load shedding during day time as power was available in the run-off of the river projects like Leshka in view of the good amount of rain.
