The Meghalaya government has moved forward with the operationalization of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), instituting a new budgetary scheme to support its implementation.
Addressing media persons, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said, “To ensure there is no escalation of law and order in the state as well as in Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills, we have decided that we will write from the government to the Airport Authority of India to deny them landing facility for their flight tomorrow.”
Speaking at a FICCI Roundtable for North-Eastern region’, held under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, on the ‘Roadmap for Making Cancer Care Affordable and Accessible in India’,Mr Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Meghalaya said the state government has launched the Cancer Mission, a screening-based program focused on early detection and prevention and already screened individuals over 30 years of age in Khasi District.
Faced with the challenge of non-availability of land for setting up of new landfills in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region of the state, the Meghalaya government has decided to encourage villages to instead have their own landfill sites within their respective jurisdictions.
