The entry of narcotic substances from across the border and the smuggling out of sugar from this side are two burning issues expected to be raised during this week’s four-day bilateral conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) taking place here in Shillong, from today.
The troops of the BSF Tripura Frontier have apprehended 1,018 individuals from illegally crossing the border since January till April. The security forces have also seized narcotics worth Rs 94 crores.
The East Jaintia Hills Police executed a successful operation resulting in the confiscation of heroin valued at Rs. 18 lakh. The operation, carried out on Wednesday, led to the apprehension of two individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances with a value of 4 crore were incinerated at the Star Cement Plant in Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills District on Friday.
