The district administrations of South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills have imposed night curfews along the Indo-Bangladesh border, in response to the heightened risk of cross-border infiltration by unwanted elements, including members of proscribed militant groups and smugglers.
East Khasi Hills district administration on Thursday imposed a two-month night curfew within a radius of 1 kilometre from the zero line along the Indo-Bangla border. The night curfew will be effective from 8 pm to 6 am every day.
To prevent the movement of extremist elements and smuggling of cattle and commodities, the Cachar district administration on Tuesday clamped night curfew along the India-Bangladesh border.
The meeting, aimed at addressing the demands of the protesting civil bodies, took a tumultuous turn when a group of agitated vested interest individuals in the crowd resorted to pelting stones at the CMO building and security personnel, and attempted to break open the gate on Monday evening.
