Agitating students of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Monday petitioned to the President of India Droupadi Murmu seeking the immediate removal of the incumbent Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof PS Shukla for allegedly failing to address the ongoing crisis in the university.
They met Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and submitted a memorandum to the President through him requesting that the law should not be implemented in the State.
Murmu, during her maiden visit to Mawphlang, admired the 700-year-old sacred grove and applauded the wisdom of the fore-fathers who understood and used the traditional concept of conserving nature.
Addressing the athletes and officials present, President Murmu acknowledged the tremendous potential North East India has for development of sports and sportspersons citing its traditionally strong sports culture, with the tribal population of the region being good at many sports.
