The tour operators of Meghalaya have called the State government into question for giving a free run to the pressure groups, especially in Khasi – Jaintia Hills, after members of Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) stopped and sent back many Assam registered vehicles who planned to travel to different part of Sohra and Dawki on Friday.
A delegation of pressure groups from Garo Hills met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday, and sought release of their members arrested in connection with the July 24, 2023 violence in Turn Town in West Garo Hills.
Major social and pressure groups across Garo Hills are demanding answers as to how the state’s the chief minister was not provided the level of protection deemed necessary for the head of state resulting in a close shave when mobs attacked the mini secretariat he was inside holding talks with another protest group over their demands on July 24th evening.
