Talking to reporters after meeting the PM Modi in New Delhi, Sangma said the Prime Minister was ‘very elated’ to hear about Meghalaya ‘lifecycle approach’ model, wherein holistic interventions are being made to ensure that at every stage in the child's life, the government play its role in ensuring that the necessary support is given.
After the meeting, CM Sangma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji heard our concerns, and assured to look into it. We thank him for giving us this opportunity.”
According to reports, seven people, including a six-year old child, died after a chariot, which was being pulled by devotees as part of the celebrations, caught fire.
While talking to media persons Rizorio Okram one of the protesters said Prime minister Narendra Modi is preaching the message of peace and harmony in the world while conveniently ignoring the fact that a part of his own country is burning for the last 49 days
In the sit-in protest, the protestors were seen holding placards and the tricolor during their protest at Saikul playground in the sub divisional headquarters from Tuesday noon till late afternoon.
The statement read, "We are deeply concerned about the continuing ethnic violence in Manipur between the Meitei community and the tribal Kuki and Zo communities. We demand an immediate halt to this violence that is causing large scale disruption of lives, livelihoods and properties and unleashing even more terror among people".
